3rd day of my brand new sem 2..Been a stimulating day..a fruitful one!
So far, I enjoyed most of my lessons esp Genetics..due to the informative approach taken by prof Gan, so approachable & forthcoming..no wonder..heard much gd comments abt her from senior! Looking 4ward 2 her lect & more animations for the next few lesson in Jan..b4..Prof Chia takes over..in Feb..
I've also learnt new things like ..the sex chromosome of chicken..hehe..ZW chromosome. ZZ for Male chicken, ZW for Female chicken..the opp of our human..XX for F, XY for M..Err..i guess..the genetic researcher who studied the chicken chromosome..must be a rather sleepy head..or perhaps..he's sleepin on his job again..tat's y..his asst researcher.. got tis bright idea of naming the male chicken sex chromosome..ZZ..as the chief..slept on..ZZzzzz...Haha..me..& my craps! But then..highly poss..esp when Prof Gan just mentioned @ 2day's lect tat..the technique of genetic recombination was 1st thought of @ a pub/club when the researchers were chilling out, chatting over beer/wines..when the idea came along & 1 of them actually jotted it down on a clean napkin!!
Speaking of hearing much comments/feedbacks from my fellow bio seniors, honestly..i tink tat such comments..need 2 b taken w a pince of salt..esp when warned of quite nasty lecturers..like..they warning us, juniors out of concern..better be careful..@ this so&so..lect..tut..not to talk..be late..etc..cos...she/he..will..wat..wat...so on & so forth..basically negative remarks.. Why i'm saying tis..cos ..tat actually just happened 2 me..right 2day!
The final verdict..at least..by me..based on my 1st tut..4 Eng Grammar II..module..was otherwise..the opposite of all tat warning I had heard from frenzs..Arggh..Can't imagine..how foolish i was..quite sianz..& abit biased as well..when i 1st saw my tutor..Ms.F..Erm..honestly..my 1st impression of her..not tat bad..u noe..but tat..cos of all that i've heard..guess tat I've influenced as well..
As she began the lesson..self-introduction, housekeeping rules..what to expect from this module..all the typical..stuff on the 1st tut of the subj, my impression of her changed for the better..oh mine..How impressed I am by her..Really..her candid comment abt the subj..how we got 2 acknowledge tat Grammar's never easy..esp with all those confusin..exceptional cases to the general rules. She further went on how fun Grammar can actually be..so unlike my super-dry..mundane Grammar I lessons last sem.. So there i was .so enthralled by her refreshing teaching approach of the usually-boring dead Grammar & not 4getting the sharing of her experiences..Wow! How animated she can be as well! REally entertaining !..at least 4 me..i'm not tat sure abt my other 11 classmates..but i'm certainly tat no one dozed off!!
All in all, she's totally different from the typical s'porean lecturer I have met so far!! Guess tat..i must have been so inspired by her..cos..me now aiming 2 do my best 4 tis module..hopefully..can ace my tests..& Gosh..Wat have i just gotten myself into ? I even volunteered 2 b the class rep 4 tis subj when she asked..though..after she repeated for quite a while & then followed by an awkward silence in the room as everyone waited for someone 2 step out of their comfort zone. It seemed like the silence may go on 4ever..or as in no one will volunteer & she may just wait till someone does so.. So haha..guess..me tat stupid..sacrifical lamb again!! Or perhaps..she did really impress me so much..tat i seriously dun mind working closely with her..at least liaising with her for my rather small class of 12..thk god! only 12..
Tinking abt tis now..Gosh.. Perhaps..OBs camp tat i had gone 4..did after all..activated some leadership gene in me..hehe..which..i've been otherwise suppressing it with p53L gene(haha..my very own..leadership tendency suppressor gene!!)..for quite a while since last sem..How i activated it..err..through..emotions..or will power maybe..hehe.. Me & my nonsense!! Esp when I told myself to take a back seat @ nie..no more..such leadership involvement..like bk in poly, jc..cedar..Shall give others the chance!
Anyway..sth 2 share es 2 my fellow nie counterparts!..courtesy of my tutor..Ms.F..a politically rite address of her..instead of the usual..Mrs, Mdm..at least by the US..
in tis modern age..teachers r not expected 2 noe everything..we ain't mr/ms Know-It-All.. esp when the access of World-wide-web..by all our future "clients" @ super young age..
Instead..teachers r somewat like a reflective practitioner..hehe..a coined term..from the usual GP..general practitioner..just tat..our arena's more into nuturing the minds..guiding..being a mentor..through sharing & reflecting of knowledge learnt..
All in all, the new-age teacher..a facilitator!! Guiding the students 2 learn..& also to learn from them as well!! After all, learning's never a 1-way process!
Consider the maths aspect of tis....
Let say tat u have 30 students..say..pri 4..so ..assume they r all 10 years old..(regarding that by psychological aspect..1 yr old..= 1 yr of knowlege learnt..mind me..We starts 2 learn as young as upon our birth..at least..in terms.of crying..reacting 2 pple..haha..another kind of learning..)
So the total yrs of knowledge acquired by them..whom u r supposed 2 teach..is somewat equal to ..30X10..300 years of knowledge(be it academically or asethetically)..Wow!isn't tis a lot!! As compared to urself..the teacher..for eg.me 24 ..so just 24 years of knowledge & added maturity i guess.. So definitely 300's much more than 24!!!
So we, teacher certainly.have much 2 learn from our students too!!
Oh yah..Happy B'day 2 my buddy..Cyn!! Enjoy..5th Jan again..once 1st b'day gal of the kaki...
