After missing in action for so many days, here i am..back to bloggin ..finally keepin my promise 2 dearest cousin, SL tat i will b updatin my blog..but hehe..never seem 2 do so till 2nite..Comin 2 tink about it, there is definitely time for me 2 blog if i was to cut down on my leisure time..stonin @ home, watchin TV and goin out w frenzs..of course..not forgetting my beauty sleep. Hmm..i guess i should blog at least once a week no matter how busy i am , so as 2 keep 2 my initial objective of bloggin- to improve my written English.. And tis brings me 2 my next pt tat i shall write in proper English in future blog in order to improve wat..( tis current one being my last blog mixed with improper punctation & Singlish).
So how did i spend my 1st wk of Aug? 1 word 2 sum it up - Eventful! Why? It's bcos i had done quite a couple of things which i've always been procrastinating (at last, these much-overdue tasks been done!) and enjoyed myself very much over the weekend too.
The highlight of this week would definitely be the happening Saturday! Why cos I spent my afternoon with SL @ All Saints' Home ( fyi, an old folks' home @ tampines) volunteering and bringin joy & company to the elderly. It was an enriching afternoon too as I got to listen to the anecdotes and the true-accounts of 'those were the days' stories of the elderly. I particularly enjoyed interacted with tis modern popo..( only English-speaking 1 i saw tat day) as she walked down her memories lane with us (SL & I). I had learnt much from her 1st-person account of experiences during Jap occupation & the olden Singapore. I can see from the bitterness and terror in her eyes while she talked, that JO had been the greatest ordeal of her life and how her family suffered terribly. Her mum, frenzs & her were living in fear of being raped by the incorrigible soldiers during those darkest days of Sg. She even gave us a detailed recollection of how they used to hide underneath their bed surrounded by trunks/chests of clothes to escape from the clutch of the sadistic and ever-ready 2 pounce on any female they came across. When she finished sharing her story, she concluded with much invaluable advices for us.. She went on time after time through our interaction that we are very fortunate to be born in the 80s and that we should always cherish our comfortable lifestyle and count our blessings.
By the time we finished listenin 2 her stories, it was dinner time for the old folks ( 5pm's the usual dinner time @ the home). That was also the time we helped in pushin the popos ( on their wheelchairs) out of their rooms to have dinner at the corridor. I learnt from SL that during her previous visit, the volunteers helped to feed the old folks and hence this time was no exceptional either. After enquiring with the nurses who are the ones to be fed, SL and I went over to 2 frail popos and began to feed them scoop by scoop while ensurin that the food wasn't too hot for them. As I was feedin a Chinese popo who looked so sick that she couldn't really talk much while being fed, I pondered upon how I will look like when i grow old next time. I seriously want to be healthy and not that dependent on others, however, sometimes, it may all depend on ur destiny or fate whether one can be blessed w good health during old age cos diseases or biazrre accidents do happen in our world. So ultimately, it is still best to live life a day by itself and not to ponder too much about our future. Wah..how i digress..
So back to my happenin saturday, hmm..rite after feedin the old folks, the volunteer work ended with a short discussion & sharing session with fellow volunteers fr all walks of life, age rangin fr 20to 30plus ( undergrad to working adults). Language barrier was the main concern to many of us as we feel that tis is the hindrance to our better interaction with the old folks. So plans of learnin more about the common phrases of diff dialects from one another (the volunteers) were suggested and learning sessions are said to be conducted during future sessions.
After 6pm, when SL decided not to come along with my frenzs, I went with Haze & YM to go to NDP carnival by the Bay 4 the Fireworks 15mins show @ 8pm.. The fireworks were magnificent & awesome! Spectacular & dazzling 2 everyone as we watched on with awe while enjoyin the background music played durin the show! The mood was festive and everyone was having a great time, be it lovey-dovey couples, cozy family havin picnic prior 2 the show or just simply kaki/frenzs gathering( like me) to watch these colourful treats of the mth! After the super-shiok fireworks, we went 2 enjoy a sumptuous steamboat bbq buffet dinner at one of the many eateries along the stretch of road next to the performance stage/fireworks spot. The food was not too bad though i was pretty upset that I can't eat much seafood due to my swollen knee (haiz, allgeric rxn after a day of sinseh usual bandage/herb treatment @ the twisted area). The most important thing would definitely be the company I had then..Without YM nor Haze around to chat with, any gourmet food will not have tasted tat superb to me!
Eventually, @ around 930-10, at last, it was our much-anticipated Mayday Performance ( all 3 of us luv their songs). They simply rockS and brought the otherwise half-dead atmosphere high as their diehard fans waved and rocked along as their music blasted on. By the time, everything ended with encore, it was already 11.. This marked the end of the 1st NDP concert by the bay. The end of my eventful 1st Sat of Aug 2005.. Zzz...
